Norwegian Train Derailment – FELA
Monday, May 3rd, 2010Norwegian Accident Investigation Board officials are blaming cargo terminal workers in Oslo as well as railway officials for the accident that occurred on March 24, 2010. The official report cited the terminal workers for failing to secure the car’s track brakes and the railway officials for putting in place acceptable standards for stopping runaway cars.
Sixteen (16) cars careened three and a half (3.5) miles downhill out of the cargo terminal before crashing into a port building. Three dock workers suffered death in this railway accident because of “lack of safety precautions.”
Accidents resulting in injury fall under the Federal Employers Liability Act – or FELA – in the States. FELA Law applies to injuries suffered on trains or railcars, in railyards, or on the railway/tracks itself.
